COMMITTEE TO ELECT DOUG LEE for MICHIGAN 80th DISTRICT

Our Vision for Michigan's Future

Academic Excellence First

Our schools should focus on reading, writing, math, science, and preparing students for real careers and real life. We need less focus on programs like SEL and DEI and more focus on academic achievement and preparing students for the future.

Accountability & Transparency

We propose a new data-driven accountability system that rewards schools for student outcomes and transparency in spending.

Recognize Academic Excellence

Our schools should recognize and celebrate academic achievement by restoring class rankings and honoring valedictorians. Competition, when healthy, motivates students to work harder and strive for excellence. We should encourage achievement, not eliminate recognition of it.

Michigan once led the nation in education. Today, our students are falling behind. Michigan ranks near the bottom nationally in reading and math achievement while spending more per student than most states. Our children deserve better.

Even more concerning, several of our local school districts—including Forest Hills and East Grand Rapids, no longer recognize a Valedictorian or Salutatorian &  no longer rank students academically.

I believe we should celebrate academic excellence, reward achievement, and inspire students to reach their full potential.

As your State Representative, I will fight to restore high academic standards, focus our schools on reading, writing, math, science, and skilled trades, and once again make Michigan a leader in education.

Our students deserve schools that challenge them, reward excellence, and prepare them for successful careers and lives.

Empowering Michigan’s Future Through Systematic Reform

Education should focus on reading, writing, math, science, and preparing students for real careers and real life. Schools should spend more time on academics and less time on programs that are not part of the core mission of education. Families and taxpayers are investing a lot into education, and they deserve strong results, accountability, and transparency. If we fix education, we fix Michigan.

Together, we can build a system that works for all.

BETTER SCHOOLS. BETTER FUTURE.
